Lake Lure covers 720 acres in the Hickory Nut Gorge, a
valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina.

National Geographic says that Lake Lure is perhaps the most beautiful man made lake in the world, with over 720 acres of sparkling,
crystal clear blue water, three long bays, an island, and a
background of tree clad hills and mountains, along
its 21 miles of scenic shoreline.

Lake Lure has gained fame as the location of the 1980s hit
 "Dirty Dancing", "Firestarter", "Last of the Mohicans", 
and the 2006 HGTV Dream Home.

Boat tours of the lake are given and include lunch cruises, dinner cruises,
and evening champagne cruises.
The tours can also be rented out for private groups.

The Lake Lure Marina offers boat rentals ranging from kayaks to pontoon boats. For those interested in fishing, Lake Lure has plenty of rainbow trout,
carp, catfish, and bluegill, among others.

 There is also a beach with water park style attractions and lifeguards. An admission fee is charged for entrance to the beach. There is a grassy picnic area with picnic tables near the beach which can be used for
small picnics or large gatherings.

Nearby attractions include a number of golf courses, river rafting, riding stables,
 bicycle tours, Flat Rock Playhouse, Harrah's Cherokee Casino, 
and the Biltmore Estate, the largest
private home in the country.
