Performance
Pretty solid performance from everyone here with every band member seeming to be in good form throughout the performance, it should also be noted that this show is the band's return to Wembley Stadium two years after Live Aid so this show is a bit historical for tour standards but, for the band's overall performance it's a pretty standard one.
Sound
On the weaker end of soundboards, in my opinion, the first couple of songs also had an annoying echo/delay on Bono's voice which, thankfully disappeared after those songs and the audience can barely be heard so it sounds a bit "dry".
Recording: "Analogue Soundboard Recording (UAG)" - 4 stars
Audience
I could barely hear them so I have no idea how engaged they were but, they did slightly show up during sections of songs but it isn't enough to fully review them.
Overall
Overall a pretty standard show for the band even though to the band it was probably a massive one due to being the 1st gig they did at Wembley Stadium after Live Aid so, it gets some historical value for people who might want to listen to this performance and there are some good moments in songs but, for the most part, this show didn't really stick out to me.
Song highlights were the following:
MLK
The Unforgettable Fire
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Exit / Riders On The Storm (snippet) / Van Morrison's Gloria (snippet)
Bad / Biko (snippet) + only instance of this snippet since the Consipacry Of Hope tour / Ruby Tuesday (snippet) / Sympathy For The Devil (snippet)
Gloria
With Or Without You / Shine Like Stars (snippet) / Love Will Tear Us Apart (snippet)

*Almost Fully Complete (Last Track - "40" only approx 60 secs long)
#TAPE TRANSFER details:
- WAV file edited to chop off non relevant parts at start & end
- Volume brought up
- Hiss Reduction gently applied - Its still a bit hissy, but I didn't want to apply too much
noise reduction as it would have destroyed too much top end.
- No Eq was applied to the recording, no frequencies were enhanced - just some mild hiss filteing
- Wav file split into individual tracks for 2 CDs etc..
- Fades added to relevant tracks at start & end of them so they'd suit 2 CDs
- Wav converted to FLAC (Level6)
ORIGINAL NOTES:
"Thanks so much for your patience, support, kind comments & for giving me the time to work
on this without being pressured. Its finally here!! This may well be a WORLD PREMIERE for
U2Torents - The First Soundboard recording from a U2 Wembley Stadium Joshua Tree Tour
Concert ;-))
Like my last torrent (The Montreal Forum Soundboard Upgrade), I received this tape the on
Feb 27th 1988. I hadn't though about it much at the time as I wasn't very familiar with U2
& this tape , along with the Montreal one, were the ones that gave me my initiaion to the
band & their music. I was given the tape by a close friend at college, told it was a
'special' tape & asked to keep it to myself, which I've done for approx 19 years.
I recently came across this tape again during the midst of a 'clear out' of my attic at home.
On listening to it again, it brought a smile to my face & I thought the very generous people
on this site (U2 Torrents) in particular might like to have it. I verified with my friend that
it was ok for me to share this now & was told it would be ok - so my conscience is clear ;-)
I hope you all enjoy this recording. Please bear in mind its far from perfect, its an old
analogue recording that was thrown in an attic & is approx 19 years old etc.etc etc Saying
that, I've spent some time trying to digitally clean it up as much as I could without
emphasizing any frequencies, adding any digital artifacts or masking out what's left of the
higher frequencies. I've used some 'gentle' hiss reduction to try ensure as much of the music
takes prominence but I chose not to over do it. Its still a little hissy as you might expect
but I think people might like it.
There is a small amount of vocal repitition on Bono's mic for the first 3 songs - approx 12mins
total duration. I guess its some effects processig or delay to the PA towers being adjusted as
the concert starts. The tape was almost complete, the last track "40" is only approx 60secs long.
There are also some very small edits on the tape that I did not make myself - it was that way
when given to me. This is a live soundboard so you might hear some imbalances in the soundmix,
bonos vocal effects switching on or being changed & since its not heavily compressed - watch out
for Larry on occasion (some parts of Bad!)
[...]
Feel free to share this with others but don't attempt to charge anyone for it, don't ebay it etc..
Please only convert to MP3 if using for your own ipod, zen, personal device etc..
Please don't forget to rate it, so others will know if its worth downloading etc.. Thanks to all
the other seeders/uploaders for their generousity with some of the excellent material recently
posted on U2 Torrents.
Regds,
bonoman66
NB: possibly the soundboard was recorded by nickh97, but I have not been able to verify this,
nor do I know where the information came for (it was tagged at a previous U2Start entry).

This recording is a curious one to me. I purchased these vinyl LPs at my local
record shop some years ago with the hope of digitizing them someday. (This despite
the fact that I did not own a turntable at the time!) Unfortunately, I didn't get
around to purchasing a USB turntable until very recently. Once I did that, I listened
to this recording for the first time. This generated more questions that it answered.
When I purchased the set, I naturally assumed that this was a complete recording from
a single show on The Joshua Tree tour. Part of my reason for this assumption was that
the spine of the LP sleeve identifies the show as coming from "Wembly 87". And yes,
Wembley is misspelled on the spine. (The spine also identifies the title as
STORIES OF THE BOYS) whereas the front labels it as simply STORIES OF BOYS.) I had also
hoped that this recording was a soundboard recording. But upon listening to the albums,
it became apparent that at least two different shows were sourced, and both were audience
recordings. My best guess (and I've listed several clues below that will hopefully help
to positively identify the sources) is that Sides 1 & 2 are taken from the show at
Wembley Stadium on 12 June 1987, and Sides 3 & 4 are taken from the show at The Sports Arena
in Los Angeles on 20 April 1987. If I am correct, then that makes this an incomplete concert
and therefore probably only of interest to collectors and fans of vinyl bootlegs.
I hope someone out there gets some enjoyment out of it.

thought it would be the worst recording in my collection when
listening to it the first time. Suffice to say that "Where the
Streets Have No Name" is essentially a waste of disc space.
The bass is far too high and it sounds as if the person recording
the show was standing outside of the stadium. The sound is muffled
and the thundering, dull bass only makes matters worse. Thankfully,
things improve and by the time "I Will Follow" begins, the sound is
much clearer -- the recorder must have made his way inside of the
building by this point! This is not to say that the sound is suddenly
wonderful. There is still some persistent static in the background
and the crispness that is a feature of any audience recording worthy
of an "B+" or greater isn't there. Audience noise is certainly audible
and stray conversations can be heard at times.
Also, there is a small skip at the beginning of "With Or Without You".

I got these tapes from a British collector a long time ago (are his cassettes and not a copy) he had bought in London at "Camden Market" in autumn 1987. Surely they are of low generation.Overall sound quality is almost good, and if it hadn't been for some flaws it could be very good audience recording, unfortunately the sound is saturated and distorted at many points.
